recently reintroduced (i.e. dug out of the ever growing and totally unorganized list of artists i admire) to paul madonna. i’ll leave the critique to the critiques and just say this:
i’ve found that writing, as opposed to drawing, comes to me relatively free of qualitative judgment. i spend so much time thinking in words and sentences that when it comes out i think less about whether its is good or bad, and more about whether it’s honest. but i love to draw. with that in mind, i’m always delighted to find artists who’s work reminds me not to take myself so seriously, to constantly change media, subjects, and perspective and to keep drawing. always keep drawing.
the essentials: be silly, be observant, and even when it’s ugly – especially when it’s ugly – be honest.
